Son kills mother in Jigawa

…the suspect brutally attacked his mother with mud blocks, causing severe head injuries.

The iNews Times reports that a heart-wrenching incident occurred at the Dantanoma community in Gumel Local Government Area of Jigawa State where a 30-year-old man, allegedly killed his mother.

The suspect, Hussaini Abubakar, allegedly killed his 75-year-old mother, Dahara Mu’azu, in a brutal attack on Sunday, June 29.

Eyewitnesses say the incident occurred around 8:00PM when operatives of the Gumel Divisional Police Headquarters received a complaint about a violent assault involving a mother and her son.

Upon arrival, the police discovered that Abubakar had brutally attacked his mother with mud blocks, causing severe head injuries.

The victim was rushed to Gumel General Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on June 30, 2025.

The Jigawa State Police Command swiftly responded to the incident, arresting Abubakar, who is currently cooperating with investigators.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, stated that the suspect will be charged to court upon completion of a discreet investigation.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad Abdullahi, condemned the heinous act, describing it as “inhuman, barbaric, and utterly reprehensible.”

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents expressing outrage and demanding justice for the victim and her family.

Sule Baba, a neighbor, described the killing as “brutal” and “senseless,” emphasizing the need for increased vigilance and community support to prevent such incidents.

Aminu Lawan, a community member, called for proactive measures to address mental health issues and domestic conflicts, urging the authorities to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure justice is served.

The Jigawa State Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to upholding law and order, protecting lives, and ensuring justice for victims of crime.

SP Adam urged the public to support the police efforts in maintaining peace and security, stating, “Together, we can build a safer and more secure community for all.”

The command also called on members of the public to report early signs of mental health crises or domestic violence to prevent avoidable tragedies, The iNews Times reports.
