…unfortunately, these issues remain unresolved, says Davido.
The iNews Times reports that Nigerian afrobeats superstar Davido has announced his withdrawal from the highly anticipated concert at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, scheduled for July 3.
The development comes despite strong ticket sales and overwhelming fan support.
Davido in a statement shared on his Instagram story, cited “major misalignments” with the event organizers, The Necto Future Group, as the reason for his withdrawal.
The music star expressed disappointment over the development, noting that despite his attempts to collaborate with the organizers, several key production issues remained unresolved.
He emphasized that his decision to cancel the show was difficult but necessary, given the circumstances.
He however assured fans that the rest of his summer tour would proceed as planned, with shows in Germany, Portugal, Belgium, Canada, and the United States.
“Unfortunately, these issues remain unresolved. As a result, I regret to inform you that I will no longer be performing at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on July 3rd. Please note, the show still holds, but without Davido,” he stated.
The singer clarified that his decision was not a reflection of turnout or support but rather a matter of principle and respect for his craft, fans, and culture.
The afrobeat star concluded his statement by asserting, “Africa must be respected,” reinforcing his stance on maintaining high standards in all his international engagements.
The concert, which was set to feature Davido alongside hip-hop legends 50 Cent and Mary J. Blige, was highly anticipated by fans across the UK and beyond, iNews Times reports.
Despite Davido’s withdrawal from the show, the other artists’ participation status is still unclear.
