United States Delivers Military Equipment to Nigeria, Strengthens Security Ties

…United States forces have delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja.

ABUJA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The United States has supplied Nigeria with key military equipment in a move aimed at reinforcing ongoing security cooperation between both countries.

The delivery was confirmed by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), which coordinates U.S. military activities across Africa.

In a statement posted on X on Tuesday, AFRICOM disclosed that the military supplies were formally handed over to Nigerian counterparts in Abuja.

“United States forces have delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This support enhances Nigeria’s ongoing security operations and underscores our shared commitment to regional security,” the statement read.

AFRICOM did not provide details on the type or quantity of equipment delivered in the post, which also tagged the U.S. Mission in Nigeria.

The development comes against the backdrop of deepening security collaboration between Nigeria and the United States. On Christmas night, U.S. forces carried out airstrikes in Sokoto State targeting militants linked to the Islamic State group, who were reportedly operating alongside the Lakurawa jihadist group and local bandit networks.

The airstrikes followed a diplomatic exchange triggered by allegations of persecution and violence against Christians in Nigeria. U.S President Donald Trump had previously described the situation as “genocide,” a claim that was firmly rejected by the Nigerian government.
