ANAMBRA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | At least four women were killed and nine others injured on Friday night in a devastating multi-vehicle crash along the Agulu Lake–Nanka-Agulu stretch of the Awka–Ekwulobia Road in Anaocha Local Government Area, Anambra State.
Eyewitnesses said the victims were returning from a burial ceremony when the driver of one of the vehicles lost control while descending a narrow bridge, causing the collision. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed four fatalities.
Anambra FRSC spokesperson Onabe stated that the accident involved four vehicles: a Toyota Hiace (HAL676YG), a shuttle bus (UKP274YA), a Toyota Hilux, and a trailer. The crash occurred around 18:18 hours, with speed and loss of control cited as the likely causes.
“The vehicle was descending the hill at high speed, lost control, and collided with three other vehicles,” Onabe said. “A total of 19 people were involved, including six adult males, 10 adult females, and three male children. Nine people, two men, four women, and three boys were injured, while four women died instantly.”
Victims were rushed to St. Joseph Hospital, Adazi, for treatment, while the deceased were deposited at the hospital morgue. Authorities opened an alternative route to manage traffic flow in the area.
