Primus Odili Urges Anambra Residents to Obtain PVC Before CVR Deadline

Primus Odili Urges Anambra Residents to Obtain PVC Before CVR Deadline

…Primus Odili said securing the PVC would enable them to vote for credible candidates.

AWKA, Nigeria — The iNews Times | Primus Odili, a chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has called on eligible citizens of Anambra State, particularly those in the Anambra North Senatorial Zone, to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

In a statement, Primus Odili said securing the PVC would not only guarantee citizens’ participation in elections but also enable them to vote for credible candidates who would shape the progressive future of their communities and the country.

According to him, “This vital exercise, which began on January 5, 2026, offers a final window until April 17, 2026, for eligible citizens to register.”

The appeal, he said, follows a recent media briefing by Anambra State’s Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Dr. Queen Agwu.

While Agwu noted that Anambra’s participation within the first four weeks of the exercise was commendable on a national scale, Primus Odili said the figures still indicated room for improvement.

“The current data shows that only a few thousand new registrants have been enrolled across the state so far. It is important to understand that this CVR is a nationwide initiative currently active in all states,” he said.

While commending the efforts of INEC in Anambra, Primus Odili also called on members of APGA to update their party membership registration, which has now been digitised, to avoid being disenfranchised.

He highlighted the significance of empowering about 4,423 new registrants across the state’s 21 Local Government Areas, granting them the fundamental right to vote in the 2027 general elections and beyond.

“The INEC team in Anambra is performing commendably. We recognise that a similar exercise just six months ago successfully added about 168,000 voters to our register. We applaud this continued service to our democracy,” he said.

However, Primus Odili stressed that the focus must now shift to increased mobilisation across the state.

“I am specifically calling on every young adult who has come of voting age since the last election. Your participation is not just a right; it is a civic duty.

“By registering and voting, we demonstrate forward-thinking citizenship and directly shape the progressive future of our communities and our country,” he said.

The Senate hopeful also called on community stakeholders across Anambra North — including youth and women leaders, ward chairmen, Presidents-General, councillors, Local Government Area chairmen and members of the clergy — to educate and encourage residents about the importance of the CVR exercise.

Primus Odili further explained that the voter’s card goes beyond electoral participation.

“Your voter’s card is more than an electoral tool,” he said. “It also serves as a valid and widely recognised form of identification for official transactions, making it an indispensable document for every Nigerian citizen.”

He added that the opportunity for registration remains open but time-bound.

“The opportunity is present, the timeline is clear and the power to influence the future rests in this simple act of registration.

“For every unregistered eligible voter in Anambra, the path to civic participation and official identification begins at the nearest INEC registration centre before April 17.”

Primus Odili also extended the appeal to members of APGA, urging them to renew their party membership through the new digital registration system while encouraging prospective members to take advantage of the process and join the party.
