…Tinubu paid tribute to the bravery of military personnel, noting that the fund would provide assistance to those injured in active service
ABUJA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | President Bola Tinubu has unveiled a special fund aimed at supporting members of the Armed Forces, particularly wounded personnel and families of fallen soldiers, to mark his 74th birthday.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the President said he had directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to set up a dedicated account for the initiative.
Describing the occasion, Tinubu paid tribute to the bravery of military personnel, noting that the fund would provide assistance to those injured in active service and to the dependants of those who died defending the nation.
He explained that the account would serve as a support mechanism for serving personnel, the wounded, and families of the fallen.
As part of his personal commitment, Tinubu pledged to donate all his salaries since assuming office as seed funding for the initiative, regardless of existing welfare and insurance provisions for the Armed Forces.
He also appealed to governors, members of the National Assembly, the private sector, and other stakeholders to contribute to the fund, adding that details of the account would be released in due course.
The President stressed the importance of acknowledging the sacrifices of military personnel and their families, describing the initiative as a duty rather than an act of charity.
Meanwhile, Tinubu reiterated his decision to mark his 74th birthday in a subdued manner, citing the current national mood and ongoing challenges facing the country.
In a personally signed message, he expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their goodwill, prayers, and continued support, noting that such gestures remain a source of strength for his administration.
