The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports that an explosion at the Mogadishu Barracks in Abuja was caused by a failed suicide bombing attempt, iNews Times reports.
According to Wike, the victim had unknowingly stolen an Improvised Explosive Device IED from a quarry site, which detonated in his possession.
He emphasized that the National Emergency Management Agency. NEMA’s report was inaccurate, stating that security agencies never suggested it was a suicide bomber.
The Minister urged caution in promoting narratives that could create unnecessary fear among Abuja residents.
The blast occurred near a barracks along the Nyanya-Mararaba road, causing panic among residents and passersby.
While the emergency responder, NEMA initially claimed the blast was caused by a failed suicide bomber, the Police launched a thorough investigation, including forensic analysis, to ascertain the cause and nature of the explosion.
