Adeleke Dumps Former Platform, Embraces Accord Party

...Adeleke said: “You are part of us, just as I am now fully a part of you. We stand united in our commitment to the progress of Osun State and Nigeria.”

OSUN, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has formally joined the Accord Party, days after resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Adeleke made the announcement on Tuesday at the Government House Banquet Hall, in the presence of national and state leaders of Accord. According to a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor also declared his intention to contest for a second term on the party’s platform.

He revealed that he had secretly joined the party over a month earlier.

“I became a member of the Accord Party on November 6 as the platform for my 2026 re-election bid, after extensive consultations with stakeholders and opinion leaders,” he said.

Adeleke added that stakeholders in Osun were fully aware of the reasons behind his decision, noting that Accord would provide the vehicle to continue the delivery of good governance widely acknowledged both locally and internationally.

He explained that he chose Accord because its philosophy of welfarism aligns with his administration’s strong emphasis on citizens’ and workers’ welfare.

Welcoming Accord leaders to the Government House, Adeleke said: “You are part of us, just as I am now fully a part of you. We stand united in our commitment to the progress of Osun State and Nigeria.”

He stressed that the party must maintain a united front ahead of the upcoming elections, ensuring inclusive leadership that reflects the interests of all groups.

“Our party is poised to take charge of Osun and sustain the delivery of good governance,” he added.

Adeleke noted that since joining the party, he had been encouraged by its core philosophy, emphasising that the welfare of citizens must remain the centrepiece of governance.

He highlighted his administration’s ongoing work from infrastructure to social services, stating that Osun had never witnessed such a level of service delivery.

“Today, we present a new platform for the people of Osun State. From Osun West to East and Central, this is our party of victory come August next year,” he said, urging residents across all communities to embrace the “Thumb-Up” party.

He expressed confidence that the people, who voted for good governance in 2022, would support continuity in 2026.

Adeleke’s decision follows his formal resignation from the PDP on December 1, citing persistent leadership crises at the national level. In a statement on Instagram, he confirmed that he submitted his resignation on November 4 to party officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government.

“I appreciate the PDP and its supporters for the opportunities given to me, from serving as a Senator to becoming Governor of Osun State,” he said.
