Amotekun Intercepts Truck, Nabs 38 Suspects in Ondo

…According to Amotekun, the individuals were unable to clearly explain their destination during initial interrogation,

ONDO, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Amotekun operatives in Ondo State have intercepted a coal-laden truck conveying 38 suspected northern travellers in Akure.

Sources disclosed that the suspects were apprehended during a routine security operation by Amotekun within the Akure metropolis while travelling in a brand-new Mercedes-Benz truck bearing registration number GML 335 XR from Jigawa State.

According to Amotekun, the individuals were unable to clearly explain their destination during initial interrogation, raising security concerns.

The suspects are currently undergoing profiling to determine their identities and the purpose of their movement into the state.

Confirming the development, the Ondo State Amotekun Commander, Mr. Adetunji Adeleye, said the suspects were being thoroughly screened.

“The suspects are currently being profiled to ascertain their identities and mission into the state,” Adeleye said.

“We are conducting a comprehensive investigation. Anyone found culpable will face the full weight of the law, while those cleared will be returned to their states of origin,” he added.

He further noted that the location where the truck driver claimed the passengers were picked up is considered a sensitive point, which has heightened security concerns.

It was also gathered that the suspects, aged between 20 and 27, claimed they were travelling to Ondo State to visit relatives but failed to provide verifiable addresses or reliable contact details.

Sources further revealed that one of the suspects was allegedly found in possession of a uniform bearing the inscription “Commander,” along with some charms. The individual reportedly claimed to be a hunter and said the uniform was used for his work but could not clearly explain his destination after leaving Gombe State.

Meanwhile, the truck driver and his 19-year-old conductor reportedly disowned the suspects during interrogation, stating that the individuals were picked up as passengers along the route and that they had no prior relationship with them.
