ANAMBRA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The Anambra State Government has pulled down the Airtight Guest House and Bar located at Y-Junction, Okpuno, in Awka South Local Government Area.
The demolition, which took place on Saturday, came after a night operation by Agunaechemba security operatives, who discovered a substantial quantity of illicit drugs, a firearm, and signs of prostitution at the premises.
Leading the operation, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, said the move was in accordance with the Anambra Homeland Security Law.
Items recovered during the raid included Tramadol, Indian hemp, nitrous oxide, Rohypnol, and other substances, as well as a locally fabricated single-barrel gun.
Addressing the development, Emeakayi stated that the action aligns with the law, which authorises the government to seize and demolish properties linked to criminal activities such as kidnapping and drug offences.
He also cautioned property owners to properly screen tenants and monitor how their properties are used to avoid legal consequences.
The manager of the facility, Paul Chike, explained that he was overseeing the business on behalf of the owner, adding that attempts had been made to prevent prostitutes from bringing clients to lodge there.
He further claimed that the firearm found at the premises was allegedly left behind by a guest.
Authorities arrested the manager, supervisor, storekeeper, and bar attendant during the operation, along with about 20 suspected prostitutes and 18 male customers.
