…The Anambra state government also approved three major activities for the second-term swearing-in
ANAMBRA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The Anambra State Government has approved and awarded contracts valued at about ₦604 million for road and other critical infrastructure projects aimed at promoting social cohesion, stimulating economic growth, and enhancing the wellbeing of residents across the state.
The government also approved three major activities for the second-term swearing-in of Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo and his deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, and constituted subcommittees to ensure seamless coordination of the events.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, announced that the swearing-in programme will feature an interdenominational church service on Sunday, March 15; the oath-taking ceremony on Tuesday, March 17; and a thanksgiving service on Sunday, March 22.
Mefor explained that the approvals and other key resolutions were reached during the second meeting of the Anambra State Executive Council in 2026, held at the Light House in Awka on March 2.
Among other decisions, the council reviewed and endorsed the sentencing of Anambra native doctor, Chidozie Nwangwu, popularly known as “Akwa Ọkụkụ Tiwara Akị,” and approved the demolition of his shrine and “Oke Ite” pots as part of efforts to restore moral and social values in the state.
Part of the statement read, “Several important resolutions were adopted at the second Executive Council meeting of 2026, including arrangements for the governor and deputy governor’s second-term inauguration.
“The Council approved three main events for the swearing-in of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, and Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, and set up subcommittees to ensure smooth implementation.
“The Council also welcomed the sentencing of Chidozie Nwangwu, known as ‘Akwa Ọkụkụ Tiwara Akị,’ and the destruction of his shrine and ‘Oke Ite’ pots as part of the administration’s campaign for moral and social rebirth.
“It described the move as a significant step toward restoring Anambra’s moral order, reaffirming the Igbo philosophy, ‘Aka aja aja na-ebute ọnụ mmanụ mmanụ’—hard work brings prosperity, as the guiding principle of the state’s reform efforts.”
The commissioner further disclosed that Ekwueme Square in Awka has now been designated strictly for government functions and will no longer host private events. The facility is regarded as an extension of the Light House, while the Multipurpose Arena at the Awka Township Stadium has been approved to accommodate private events previously held at the square.
