ABUJA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | APC candidate Christopher Maikalangu has been declared the duly elected chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The AMAC Collation Officer, Andrew Abue, declared that Maikalangu, who is the incumbent chairman, secured victory after polling 40,295 votes out of 62,861 valid votes cast in the election.
According to Abue, the African Democratic Congress placed second with 12,109 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party garnered 3,398 votes. He disclosed that 2,336 votes were rejected, bringing the total votes cast to 65,197, with 62,861 counted as valid votes.
He further revealed that AMAC has 837,338 registered voters, while 65,676 voters were accredited for the poll.
“Maikalangu of the APC, having satisfied the legal requirements, is hereby declared winner and returned elected,” Abue stated.

Reacting after the announcement, APC collation agent Gambo Babale described both the election and collation processes as credible and transparent.
He commended INEC for conducting what he termed a thorough exercise across polling units, ward collation centres, and the AMAC collation centre, adding that the transparency of the process was evident.
Babale noted that the PDP secured two ward councillorship seats in Karu and Karishi, which he said further demonstrated the openness of the election.
While congratulating Maikalangu, he expressed confidence that the victory would translate into greater democratic dividends for AMAC residents and projected optimism for the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
Similarly, YPP ward collation agent Abdullahi Ibrahim praised the transparency of the collation process and extended congratulations to the winner.
Result sheets were endorsed by party agents of the ADC, APC, APGA, YPP, and NNPP who were present at the collation centre.
