ANAMBRA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Apprentice, 18, allegedly killed his master with a pestle during a heated altercation on Sunday in Fegge, Onitsha, Anambra State.
The apprentice, identified as Chiemerie, was said to have attacked his boss, Iyke, after being reprimanded over alleged misconduct, including pilfering money and drug use. Sources said the confrontation escalated when the apprentice allegedly grabbed a pestle from the kitchen and struck his master on the head.
Eyewitnesses disclosed that the victim was a trader at the popular Ogbo-Ogwu Bridgehead Medicine Market in Onitsha. The assault, which occurred on Sunday evening, left residents in shock. Iyke was rushed to a hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
Confirming the incident on Monday, the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect had been arrested and the weapon recovered. According to him, the dispute began after the victim scolded the young man for stealing from the shop, taking drugs, and returning home late, leading to a confrontation that turned violent.
In a related development in 2023, the Ondo State Police Command arrested a 20-year-old apprentice, Josiah Godwin, for allegedly killing his master, Saviour Joseph, and dumping his body in a well at their work site.
