Awka, Nigeria — The iNews Times reports that the Army hands over a murder suspect to police authorities in Anambra State following the arrest of a 52-year-old man linked to conspiracy, attempted kidnapping, grievous bullet injuries, and murder in Urum, Awka North Local Government Area.
The suspect, Ndibe Jude Onyenwe, was apprehended by operatives of the 302 Artillery Regiment and subsequently transferred to the Anambra State Police Command for further investigation.
Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga disclosed on Thursday that the murder suspect allegedly conspired with one Felix Godwin and other accomplices currently at large to sponsor armed men for a violent ambush targeting unsuspecting road users in Urum.
According to the police, the suspect confessed during interrogation that Felix Godwin paid ₦500,000 through an Access Bank account to recruit four gunmen from Ayamelum Local Government Area, alongside one Emeka from Urum community who allegedly led the attack.
Investigators further revealed that the suspect received ₦350,000 to procure four packets of cartridges used during the operation.
The ambush reportedly left six victims with severe gunshot injuries, heightening security concerns in the area.
Police confirmed that the suspect remains in custody undergoing further interrogation, while efforts have been intensified to arrest other fleeing members of the criminal network.
The Command reassured residents of its commitment to maintaining public safety and ensuring all perpetrators involved in the attack are brought to justice.
