ABUJA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The Nigerian Army has successfully rescued 19 kidnapped residents and neutralised a bandit during a joint operation in Gidan Dogo, Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory.
The operation followed credible intelligence on the location of terrorists responsible for the recent abductions in the Byazhin area.
In a Saturday statement signed by Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Olawuyi Itunuoluwa, the Army said troops from the 7 Guards Battalion, Guards Brigade, working alongside the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilantes, “successfully rescued 19 kidnapped victims during a coordinated search and rescue mission.”
The statement added that troops “engaged the bandits, resulting in a firefight in which one criminal was neutralised, while others fled with suspected gunshot injuries.”
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of “one AK-47 rifle and a locally fabricated firearm.”
Commander of the Guards Brigade, Brigadier General Adebisi Onasanya, praised the army and collaborating security agencies “for their courage and professionalism during the operation.”
He further reiterated that the Brigade remains “resolute and fully committed to protecting residents of the Federal Capital Territory and safeguarding Abuja as the nation’s seat of power.”
The Army concluded by affirming that troops will “continue to dominate the area to prevent further criminal activities” and intensify joint operations with other security agencies “to eliminate terrorism, kidnapping, and other crimes in the territory and its environs.”
