…from the Haske Atiku Organisation to the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation,
ABUJA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Abubakar, the son of former Vice President and 2023 PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has left the Peoples Democratic Party for the ruling All Progressives Congress, pledging to campaign for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
The defection, announced on Thursday at the National Assembly in Abuja, is widely seen as a symbolic and strategic setback to Atiku Abubakar’s future presidential aspirations and a significant gain for the APC, especially in the North-East.
Popularly called “Abba,” he was formally welcomed into the APC by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, alongside other prominent party leaders from the region, in what was described as a major political shift.
Speaking at the event, Abubakar confirmed his resignation from the PDP and declared his full commitment to the APC, describing the decision as both historic and personal.
He also instructed all members and coordinators of his political movement, the Haske Atiku Organisation, founded in 2022 to immediately defect to the APC and begin mobilising support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“I am here today to officially announce my departure from my former party, where we worked in 2023, and my decision to join the APC,” he said. “I will work closely with Senator Barau to ensure the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid in 2027.”
Welcoming him, APC National Vice Chairman (North-East), Mustapha Salihu, described the defection as far-reaching and symbolic of a new era of “politics without borders,” noting that Abubakar’s decision was driven by the policies and programmes of the Tinubu administration.
Salihu assured the new entrant of equal rights and opportunities within the party, stressing that the APC is guided by ideology and governance priorities rather than personal interests.
Senator Barau, in his remarks, praised Abubakar’s move as bold and principled, insisting that it was based on belief in President Tinubu’s leadership and the Renewed Hope Agenda, not family ties.
He revealed that Abubakar, who had been observing political developments from the United States, was impressed by the administration’s reforms, prompting his return to Nigeria and decision to join the APC.
A presidential aide, Alhaji Mahmoud Abdullahi, also welcomed Abubakar, assuring him of President Tinubu’s acceptance and support within the party.
On behalf of the defecting group, Kano State Coordinator Mubarak Musa described the move as strategic, pledging that the group would intensify efforts to secure victory for the APC in 2027 under Senator Barau’s leadership.
The event climaxed with the rebranding of Abubakar’s political platform from the Haske Atiku Organisation to the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation, signalling a complete political realignment and open endorsement of President Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
