AWKA, NIGERIA – The iNews Times | The Ojoto Akanasato Women have empowered 12 Indigent women with huge sums of money to enable them start up Small and Medium Enterprises SMEs.
The Empowerment was given during the Ojoto Akanasato Women 2025 August Meeting which held at Ndiabor Hall Ojoto Obofia, Idemili South Local Government Area, Anambra State.
Ojoto Community Woman Leader, Mrs. Anthonia Okonkwo who would be bowing out by May 2026 after four years of leadership recounted her exceptional performances.
“During my tenure we paid hospital bills for many people who were discharged from hospital but could not pay for their treatment.
“We gave scholarships to many indigent children and empowered 12 women with huge sums of money to start up Small businesses.
“Before my tenure ends, we intend to complete the establishment of Cassava (Fufu) and Garri Processing Factories both at Ojoto Uno and Ojoto Obofia to aid the women who travel to a far distance to process their Garri or pound Fufu in commercial quantities.
“Today Inyom Ojoto Akanasato shall also honor some of our illustrious sons and daughters who have distinguished themselves in various areas of human endeavors and contributed to the development and progress of Ojoto people and community with the title of ‘Ezinne Di Ogo’ and ‘Ezinna Bu Ife’ Merit Awards,” said Mrs Okonkwo.
Chairman, Idemili South Local Government, Hon Mrs Amaka Obi said, “gone were days when married women answer full house wife without any financial contribution in the family.
“Idleness promotes gossip, adultery, pressure on the husband and children to provide money wether legally or illegally. Such women should enroll into the skill acquisition program I established at the LGA Secretariat, Ojoto”.
Member representing Idemili South at the State House of Assembly, Barr. Ebuka Igwe urged the women to keep praying for those in authority and for good governance.
He urged them to arm themselves with their permanent voters card and vote for the right candidate that will continue providing democracy dividends to better the lives of Ndi Anambra.
Former Rector Federal Polytechnic Oko Engr Dr. Francisca Nwafulugo advised to leave peacefully with their husband and with their fellow women.
“Let us pay more attention to our family and youths. Engage them in skills so as to shun vices prevalent among youths in a decaying society,” she said.
Describing the outgoing community Woman Leader Mrs Anthonia Okonkwo as a calm and intelligent woman, Nwafulugo praised her for achieving a lot during her tenure to the admiration of the people of the community.
