EEDC announces blackout in Anambra and Enugu

…the temporary blackout is necessary to allow TCN engineers to replace faulty overhead porcelain insulators.

AWADA, NIGERIA – The iNews Times | Residents across Anambra State and parts of Enugu State will experience a scheduled blackout this Sunday and Monday as the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) embarks on critical maintenance work in collaboration with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

In a statement issued on Saturday by Emeka Ezeh, Group Head of Corporate Communications at EEDC, the planned outage is set to run from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily on August 31 and September 1, 2025.

The temporary blackout is necessary to allow TCN engineers to replace faulty overhead porcelain insulators at the 330kV switchyard located at the Awada transmission station in Anambra State.

The utility company disclosed that the maintenance exercise will affect power supply in Anambra State, and parts of Enugu State, particularly Oji River and surrounding communities.

“The outage is necessary to allow the Transmission Company of Nigeria maintenance crew to replace faulty overhead porcelain insulators at the 330kV switchyard in Awada,” the statement read. “As a result of this maintenance, electricity supply will be interrupted in the affected areas during the specified times.”

Ezeh extended apologies to customers for the disruption, noting that the effort is part of ongoing work to enhance power reliability in the region.

“We regret the inconvenience this may cause and kindly ask for our customers’ understanding,” he said. “The exercise is aimed at improving and enhancing the quality of service.”

The EEDC urged affected customers to plan accordingly and assured that normal electricity supply will resume once the work is completed.
