Corps Member Launches Digital Bootcamp to Empower Youths in Anambra LG

…says the bootcamp was inspired by need to address digital divide and lack of opportunities in the community.

EKWUSIGO, NIGERIA – The iNews Times reports that a corps member in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State, Moses Yakubu has launched a community-focused digital skills bootcamp aimed at empowering local youths with practical, 21st-century technological competencies.

Speaking during the official commissioning of the Digital City Bootcamp Project at the Council headquarters in Ozubulu, project’s executor and member of the NYSC Community Development Service (CDS) group said the bootcamp was inspired by need to address digital divide and lack of opportunities in the community.

He credited the initiative to the encouragement he received from his Local Government Inspector, Mr. Kenneth Ani, who urged corps members to use their service year to make a meaningful impact in their host communities.

“Despite initial challenges, including limited resources and low turnout at the start, the support from local leaders, including the Ekwusigo Local Government Chairman played acrucial role in bringing the project to fruition.

“This is more than just a bootcamp. It’s about creating a legacy of learning, innovation, and empowerment that will outlive my service year,” he said.

Chairman of Ekwusigo Local Government, Chimezie Obi lauded the benefactor for his foresight and commitment to youth development.

He described the bootcamp as “a highly impactful project” that goes beyond theoretical teaching and instead imparts creativity and practical skills to students.

Obi urged participants to make the most of the opportunity, prioritizing learning and productively utilizing their free time.

Emphasizing the importance of hard work and excellence, the Council boss encouraged the youths to strive for greatness and avoid social vices such as “Yahoo-Yahoo” and other forms of cybercrime.

“Let this bootcamp be a turning point in your lives,” he said. “Use this knowledge to create, to innovate, and to build a better future—not only for yourselves but for your community.”

NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Pauline Ojisua expressed gratitude for the successful launch of the project.

Ojisua, represented by Local Government Inspector for Ekwusigo thanked God for His role in the project’s success and commended efforts of both the corps member and the local government leadership.

She urged the students to take full advantage of the opportunity, noting that Yakubu’s initiative serves as a model of what can be achieved through creativity, resourcefulness, and determination.

The NYSC boss also encouraged other corps members to follow suit, challenging them to think beyond the ordinary and use their service year to leave a lasting impact on society.

The Project commissioning which attracted local dignitaries, NYSC officials, students, and members of the community is expected to provide ongoing training in digital literacy, coding, graphic design, and other relevant tech skills to students and young people in the community.

Plans are already underway to expand the program and incorporate more participants in subsequent batches.

With such initiatives, NYSC continues to fulfill its mandate of fostering national development through youth empowerment, while also proving that one committed individual can spark transformative change in any community.
