CROSS RIVER, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Joseph Emmanuel allegedly killed his 10-year-old daughter in Calabar on Wednesday evening following a dispute over a missing petrol pipe.

The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. at No. 3 Esit Ebom Street, Calabar South Local Government Area. Emmanuel, a father of twins, reportedly returned home to find a petrol pipe he used for siphoning fuel into his commercial motorcycle and customers’ vehicles was missing.

When his daughter could not explain the pipe’s whereabouts, he allegedly became enraged and physically assaulted her. An eyewitness said Emmanuel kicked the girl in the ribs, causing her to convulse and bleed from the nose. Neighbours rushed her to a nearby church for help, but she was pronounced dead shortly afterward.

Angry residents attempted to mob him, who was rescued by police and taken into custody. ASP Sunday Eitokpa, Police Public Relations Officer of the Cross River State Command, confirmed the incident, adding that he was taken to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital for injuries sustained during the attempted lynching.
