…the armed robbery suspects confessed to being members of the Black Axe Confraternity.
The iNews Times reports that the Enugu State Police Command has arrested four male suspects in connection with conspiracy, armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, and cultism in multiple operations.
The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, in a press statement made available to The iNews Times, said the arrests were made during multiple intelligence-guided operations, leading to the recovery of three firearms and a gun-like device, along with live cartridges and other incriminating exhibits.
According to Ndukwe, the suspects were arrested on June 22, 2025, in separate operations. Two suspects, Esomchi Ugwu and Kosisochukwu Ukwuani, were arrested at Enugu-Ngwo, Udi Local Government Area, with a single-barreled pistol, a cut-to-size gun, and four live cartridges.
He noted that the suspects confessed to being members of the Black Axe Confraternity.
In separate operation, a locally made single-barrelled pistol, live ammunition, and cartridges were recovered from a cooking pot at Ndiaga-Ugwuaji, Enugu South LGA.
The suspect, Ogbodo Friday Onyekachi, fled the scene, but his accomplice, Izuchukwu Anyanwu Gabriel, was arrested.
He said the command also responded to a distress call on June 23, 2025, and recovered a gun-like device abandoned by fleeing suspects. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects.
The Enugu Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, commended the operatives for their dedication and urged them to sustain the momentum in combating crime across the state, The iNews Times reports.
