Enugu Police Charge 42-Year-Old Man with Raping 13-Year-Old Girl

‎…the Enugu State Government reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying action against child molesters,

‎‎ENUGU, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The Enugu Police have arraigned a 42-year-old man, Edwin Eze, before a magistrate’s court for the alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl in Mburubu, Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State.

‎The development comes as the State Government reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying action against child molesters, emphasizing Governor Peter Mbah’s administration’s zero tolerance for all forms of child abuse, molestation, and violence against women.

‎Edwin Eze appeared before Magistrate Chijioke Idu of the Enugu East Magistrate Court on Monday. In the charge marked CMG/69c/2026, Commissioner of Police vs. Edwin Eze, the police alleged that the defendant unlawfully engaged in carnal knowledge of a minor, an offense punishable under the State law.

‎The charge reads: ‎”That you, Edwin Eze, male, sometimes in November 2025, at approximately 1800 hours, at Amanato Mburubu Community, Nkanu East, Enugu State, within the jurisdiction of this court, did unlawfully have carnal knowledge of a girl (name withheld), aged 13 years, by inserting your penis into her vagina without her consent, thereby committing an offense contrary to Section 3(1)(a) and punishable under Section 4(1)(a) of the State Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law, No. 2 of 2019.”

‎Magistrate Idu subsequently adjourned the case to February 12, 2026, and ordered that the accused be remanded in Enugu Prison.

‎Meanwhile, the State Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, Mrs. Ngozi Enih, reiterated that child molesters and abusers would face justice.

‎“This case underscores our determination to hold every offender accountable in line with Governor Peter Mbah’s administration’s zero tolerance for acts that harm children and women. We will ensure this case is pursued to its logical conclusion,” she stated.
