The iNews Times reports that operatives of the Enugu State Police Command’s Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad have arrested four suspects, including a 21-year-old man who orchestrated his own kidnapping.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the state, SP Daniel Ndukwe, Chidera Godwin Ako, 21, and his accomplices, Okechukwu Philip Chidalu, 19, Ifeanyi Ugwu, 20, and Ossai Chigozie, 35, defrauded Chidera’s parents of ₦2 million under the guise of their son being held captive.
The suspects were apprehended by the police on May 24, 2025, after Chidera’s parents paid a total of ₦2 million in ransom, following demands for ₦10 million.
A locally made single-barrel gun and two live cartridges were recovered from the suspects.
The State’s Police Commissioner, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has ordered further arrests of anyone linked to the crime and urged the public to report suspected kidnappings immediately, just as he cautioned against hasty ransom payments.
The suspects will be arraigned upon completion of investigations, Ndukwe said.
