ABUJA, NIGERIA – The iNews Times reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the November 8 election in Anambra State, Jude Ezenwafor, is alive and recuperating after surviving a gun attack in Abuja on Friday night, his campaign office has confirmed.

Ezenwafor was reportedly shot by unknown gunmen in the Wuse 2 area of the Federal Capital Territory, sparking widespread rumours and online reports claiming he had died from his injuries.

However, in a statement on Saturday, his media campaign team, Ifeabata Media, debunked the reports as “malicious, misleading, and fake,” insisting that the candidate remains in a stable condition at a private hospital in Abuja.

“Our attention has been drawn to a statement credited to Sahara Reporters claiming that Amb. Sir Jude C. Ezenwafor (KSJI), the PDP governorship candidate, is dead,” the statement read. “This report is entirely false and intended to mislead the public and distort facts about the attack on him in Wuse 2, Abuja.”

The statement confirmed that Ezenwafor sustained gunshot wounds to both legs and is awaiting surgery. “He is stable and receiving adequate treatment,” the campaign said, urging the media to refrain from spreading unverified information, especially on sensitive matters.

“We appeal to Nigerians to pray for his quick recovery and the success of his upcoming surgery,” the statement added.

Social media had been awash with claims that the PDP candidate succumbed to complications from his injuries – claims now dismissed as false by his team.

Police authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the attack, while investigations are reportedly ongoing.
