FG Announces Holidays to Mark Christmas and New Year

...The FG Minister further appealed to citizens to be law-abiding and vigilant throughout the celebrations,

ABUJA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The Federal Government (FG) has announced Thursday, December 25, and Friday, December 26, 2025, as public holidays in observance of Christmas and Boxing Day.

It also declared Thursday, January 1, 2026, as a public holiday to mark the New Year.

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Monday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

The statement quoted the minister as calling on Nigerians to reflect on the ideals of love, peace, humility and sacrifice embodied in the birth of Jesus Christ.

Tunji-Ojo also urged Nigerians, regardless of their religious or ethnic backgrounds, to use the festive period to pray for peace, enhanced security and national development.

The FG Minister further appealed to citizens to be law-abiding and vigilant throughout the celebrations, while extending his best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
