FRSC sensitizes Anambra residents on use of pedestrian bridge

…as FRSC assures clearance of pedestrian bridges to avoid obstruction and ensure free flow of traffic.

The iNews Times reports that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra state has cautioned residents to desist from crossing the expressway, but to make use of pedestrian bridges.

Deputy Corps Commander, Christy Okonkwo gave the advice on Thursday during public enlightenment campaign on need for use of bridges at the popular UNIZIK junction.

She said the sensitization was necessary to ensure reduction of casualties and safety of road users, warning that the Command would soon commence arrest of defaulters.

She said, “We’re here to sensitize the pedestrians on the need for them to use the pedestrian bridges and not the expressway.

“The government has created the bridge which is essentially meant for the pedestrians to make use of.

“We call on pedestrians to stop crossing the expressway but to make use of the bridge for their safety. They should keep safety in their hearts because safety is everybody’s business.”

Reacting on excuses by some pedestrians on the congestion of the bridge which are occupied by petty traders and beggars, Okonkwo assured clearance of the bridge to avoid obstruction and ensure free flow of traffic.

“We’ll also ensure steady presence of security personnel to guarantee safety of users of the bridge during the day and night.

“After the public enlightenment and sensitization, we’ll start enforcement of arrest of defaulters and penalties metted accordingly,” she added.
