OYO, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Gunmen have killed a police officer and kidnapped a Chinese expatriate in a violent attack on a farm in Ogunmakin community, in the Ibadan axis of Oyo State.

The incident reportedly occurred around 1 pm on Thursday at Aqua Triton Company, where about 10 armed men stormed the premises in a commando-style operation.

It was gathered that the assailants abducted a company director, 42-year-old Renjith Pillai, while he was inspecting crops on the farm.

Confirming the attack, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, said the police officer was killed while attempting to resist the attackers.

Although the identities of the victims were yet to be fully confirmed, Olayinka said security operatives had launched a search operation to rescue the abducted expatriate.

“I can confirm that unknown gunmen attacked Aqua Triton Company in Ogunmakin, near Ibadan, in a commando-style operation. One police officer lost his life while repelling the attack and reportedly injured some of the assailants. The Chinese expatriate principal was abducted,” he said.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, had ordered an immediate manhunt for the kidnappers.

According to him, the Commissioner directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to lead the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and other tactical units to the scene. A bush-combing operation is currently ongoing, alongside a full investigation aimed at rescuing the victim and apprehending those responsible.
