‎‎KATSINA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Gunmen have launched a deadly attack on Chibauna community in Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State, barely weeks after a reported peace agreement, killing two persons and abducting over 50 women.

‎The gunmen struck the community late on Sunday night, making away with a large number of livestock, including cattle and sheep, during the assault.

‎Speaking in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service monitored on Monday night, a local councillor, Malam Abdurasheed, confirmed the incident, stating that the gunmen stormed the village and fired shots indiscriminately, throwing residents into panic.

‎He revealed that two people lost their lives in the attack, while several others suffered gunshot wounds and are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

‎Malam Abdurasheed further disclosed that although more than 50 women were initially abducted, some managed to escape and later returned safely to the community.

‎He called on the military and other security agencies to urgently step in and strengthen security operations in the area to prevent further attacks and ensure the rescue of those still being held captive.

‎The incident has intensified fear among residents, raising fresh concerns about the effectiveness of the peace agreement and the deteriorating security situation in parts of Katsina State.
