Human Capital Development Anambra’s Greatest Asset, Commissioner Reveals

Anambra State government has described human capital development as Anambra’s greatest strength, while restating its commitment to maintenance of standard education and quality assurance in both public and private schools across the state, iNews Times reports.

Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh gave the assurance in Awka at a 2-day workshop organized by the Ministry for owners of Private Schools in the state.

She said the Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration had been deliberate and insistent on catching the children young through quality education to ensure production of graduates with the capacity of competing globally.

Describing human development as Anambra’s greatest strength, the Commissioner stressed the importance government attached to the workshop targeted at updating private school  owners and their teachers with new teaching techniques.

She said, “The workshop is one of government’s initiatives to raise skilled and technologically equipped manpower with a focus on quality assurance, methodologies, teacher-student relationship, students-society relationship, morals, ethics and adherence to acceptable standards.

“The training is very serious as it aims to re-awaken the consciousness of the participants on the dos and donts in establishing a school in the state.

“There are rules and regulations guiding the education system which you must adhere to for improved outcomes.”

Delivering a paper on “Teaching Methodologies”, one of the resource persons, Prof Nneka Nnorom explained the nitty-gritty of various teaching methods, strategies, techniques and ways teachers impact knowledge on students to achieve the objectives during the classroom instructions.

Another resource person, Dr Vivian Okoli who spoke on “Maintaining Standard and Quality Assurance in Schools,” said the participants, after the training were expected to go back to their schools to carry out self-evaluation to ensure they were operating within acceptable standard.

She urged every school in the state to obtain a copy of Education Quality Assurance handbook as provided by federal government, describing it as statutory document for the education sector.

The training themed, “Educational Practices, Issues and Trends For Maintenance of Standard and Quality Assurance in Schools, attracted Directors in the ministry, proprietors, proprietresses, headteachers and teachers of private schools.
