ABUJA, NIGERIA – The iNews Times reports that the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on Monday, decorated 28 newly promoted senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force, in what has been described as one of the most extensive promotion exercises in the history of the Force.
The ceremony, held at the Goodluck Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, followed the recent approval of the promotions by the Police Service Commission upon the IGP’s recommendation.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the event saw the elevation of 12 Commissioners of Police (CP) to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), and 16 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP) to the rank of CP.
Speaking at the event, IGP Egbetokun emphasised that the promotions were a key component of his administration’s ongoing welfare reform within the Force, describing it as the “fastest and most far-reaching promotion cycle” the NPF has witnessed.
“These promotions are not just a recognition of past achievements, but a call to greater service,” the IGP said.
“As leaders within the Force, you must be committed to ethical conduct, professional excellence, and innovative policing strategies.”
Egbetokun urged the newly promoted officers to strengthen community relationships, earn public trust, and uphold the fundamental rights of citizens in their operational mandates.
Among those elevated to the rank of AIG are:
Emmanuel Adegbola Aina, Enyinnaya Adiogu, Ronke Nurat Okunade, Johnson Oluwole Adenola, Hassan Audu Yabanet, Chinedu Oko, Aminu Baba Raji, Omolara Oloruntola, Akoh Benedict Gabriel, Tijani Ahmadu Abdullahi (rtd), Mohammed Usman, and Bretet Emmanuel.
Officers promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police include:
Sheik Mohammed Danko, Abiola Reuben Olutunde, Charles Dike, Victor Erivwode, Nnanna Oji Ama, Michael Falade, Yakubu Dankaro, Gabriel Elaigwu, Emefile Tony Osifo, Umar Ahmed Chuso, Aina Adesola, Uduak Uta, Sylvester Edogbanya, Musa Muhammed Sani, Omoikhudu Philip, and Innocent Anagbado.
The decoration ceremony was attended by top dignitaries including the Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Oyewunmi Olalere; Rt. Hon. Obi Aguoda of the House of Representatives; Dr. Shuaib Belgore, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development; Executive Secretary of the Police Trust Fund, Femi Mohammed Sheidu; members of the Force Management Team; retired senior officers, and families of the newly promoted officers.
