ANAMBRA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has declared a permanent end to the Monday sit-at-home order across the South-East, with effect from Monday, February 9, 2026.
The directive, issued on the authority of IPOB leader Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, urged residents to freely return to their schools, workplaces, markets, and other daily activities without fear or coercion.
In a statement, the group spokesperson Emma Powerful said any effort to enforce the sit-at-home henceforth would amount to a direct violation of Kanu’s directive and an act against the Biafran cause.
“All markets, schools, offices, transport services, and economic activities are to resume fully and normally from tomorrow. The era of the Monday sit-at-home has come to an end,” the statement said.
The group also cautioned against possible false-flag actions or intimidation by adversaries, advising the public to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding. It further noted that no state governor has the power to intimidate or forcibly shut down the businesses of traders who may act based on personal choice.
The group emphasized that any planned market renovations or relocations must be carried out with the consent of stakeholders and the provision of temporary trading spaces before commencement. IPOB called on residents of the South-East to resume normal life, ensure children return to school, and uphold unity, reiterating its commitment to freedom, dignity, and justice.
The development represents a major policy shift by IPOB, bringing to an end the long-running weekly shutdown that had disrupted economic and social activities across the region.
