…the Iran missile strike came as the Revolutionary Guards declared they now have “full control” of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Tehran, Iran — The iNews Times | An Iran missile strike has reportedly hit a United States oil tanker in the Persian Gulf, according to Iranian state television, marking the latest escalation involving energy infrastructure in the region.
The report said the tanker “was hit by a missile in the north of the Persian Gulf” and is currently on fire following the alleged Iran missile strike.
The claim was attributed to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which said the attack targeted a US-linked tanker operating in the strategic waterway.
However, the incident has not been independently confirmed by international authorities.
Strait of Hormuz Claim
The reported Iran missile strike came as the Revolutionary Guards declared they now have “full control” of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf to the Indian Ocean and is regarded as one of the world’s most critical oil and gas transit routes.
A significant portion of global energy supplies passes through the narrow shipping corridor daily.
Iran Accuses US of Sinking Warship
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had earlier accused the United States of committing what he described as an “atrocity at sea.”
Araghchi alleged that the US sank an Iranian navy vessel off the coast of Sri Lanka.
“The US has perpetrated an atrocity at sea, 2,000 miles away from Iran’s shores,” he wrote on X.
He said the Iranian naval frigate IRIS Dena, which was visiting India’s navy and carrying nearly 130 sailors, was struck in international waters without warning.
“Mark my words: The US will come to bitterly regret the precedent it has set,” the minister added.
The developments have further heightened tensions in a region that plays a crucial role in global energy supply.
