BAUCHI, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Nigeria Union of Journalists, Bauchi State Council, has announced the death of Kabiru Ahmed, a cameraman with the Bauchi Television Authority, 23 days after he was involved in a road accident.
The crash happened on February 6, 2026. Ahmed died despite receiving intensive medical attention, coming 17 days after Kani Ben, a cameraman with Channels Television, also passed away from injuries sustained in the same incident.
Both journalists were being treated at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital at the time of their deaths.
In a statement circulated on journalists’ WhatsApp platforms on Sunday, NUJ State Chairman Umar Sa’id confirmed Ahmed’s demise and expressed grief over the loss.
“We have just lost one of our colleagues among the two remaining at the teaching hospital, Kabiru Ahmed. May his soul rest in peace,” he said.
Sa’id further disclosed that the funeral prayer would take place at 2 p.m. at the Bauchi Central Mosque, also known as Masallacin Fadan Sarkin Bauchi.
He added that Ahmed’s body would be moved from the teaching hospital to his family home in Ilale for burial, praying for Allah’s mercy and forgiveness upon the deceased.
The INews Times learnt that Ahmed was among journalists covering the inauguration and handover of projects carried out by the North-East Development Commission alongside the Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari, when the accident occurred.
