Monday School Attendance: Anambra Govt Threatens 1-Week Suspension

…as schools fail to comply with the order mandating full Monday School Attendance.

Awka, Nigeria — The iNews Times reports that the Anambra State Government has warned that any pupil who fails to comply with the Monday School Attendance directive will face a one-week suspension.

Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, issued the warning in her office while addressing the management of Mount Olive Schools and Spring Field Academy, both located in GRA, Onitsha.

She said the directive followed instructions from Governor Chukwuma Soludo, adding that the affected schools were invited to explain their reasons for allegedly failing to comply with the government’s order mandating full Monday School Attendance across the state.

While the management of Mount Olive Schools claimed there had been improved attendance on Mondays, Spring Field Academy attributed poor turnout to parents’ reluctance to bring their children to school at the start of the week.

Both schools, however, pledged to intensify efforts to ensure full compliance with the directive.

2026 Transition Placement Examination Conducted

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education, through the Examination Development Centre, has successfully conducted the 2026 Transition Placement Examination.

Prof. Chuma-Udeh, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. Mrs. Ifeoma Agbaizu, monitored the examination at various centres across the state.

The centres visited included UNIZIK Demonstration School, Igwebeze Primary School, and Igwebike Grammar School, where the examination was reported to have recorded a hitch-free conclusion.
