ANAMBRA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The First Lady of Anambra State, Nonye Soludo, has celebrated mothers across the country, describing motherhood as a “divine responsibility” that deserves honour at all times and whose value cannot be measured materially.
In a statement issued on Sunday to mark Mothering Sunday, observed globally on March 15 this year, the First Lady said no gift, treasure, or expression of love could ever match the true worth of motherhood.
She described motherhood as a rare privilege that should never be taken for granted.
“Motherhood is one divine responsibility that has no material quantification. Being a mother is a rare blessing, a gift that should never be taken for granted,” she said.
Soludo, who is also the founder of the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo initiative, further noted that motherhood represents God’s call to fulfil a sacred purpose that goes beyond the home and is driven by passion and grace.
She encouraged people to celebrate their mothers not only on the special day but always, adding that the greatest gifts anyone can give a mother are love, presence, and prayers.
“For your sacrifices, extraordinary courage, resilience, and eternal care, the world celebrates you today and beyond. Remember that the best gift you can give her is love, presence, and prayers.
“Happy Mothering Sunday to every hardworking and compassionate mother in Anambra State and beyond. Take your flowers. You are the saints we see,” Soludo added.
According to The iNews Times, Mothering Sunday is celebrated annually on the fourth Sunday in Lent and is mainly observed in the United Kingdom and Ireland as a day dedicated to honouring mothers and mother churches, often blending religious services with family gatherings.
Traditionally, Christians mark the occasion by visiting the church where they were baptised, symbolically returning as “children of the church.”
