The iNews Times reports that the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has intercepted and uncovered expired beverages worth N35 million in Kaduna State.

According to Andrew Tamanuwa, Deputy Director of NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate, who made this disclosure, the interception followed a tip-off from a good Samaritan on Sunday evening.

The tip-off indicated that two buses and a golf wagon car were transporting expired non-alcoholic beverages to Kwanar Dangora, Kiru Local Government Area in Kano State.

The agency’s operatives swiftly intercepted the vehicles, arrested the owner, and confiscated the products.

The confiscated products included 700 packs of Schweppes and 300 packs of Fanta Orange flavor.

The iNews Times learnt that further investigation led to a warehouse at Bayajidda Road, Kaduna, where more expired beverages were discovered, including 588 packs of Schweppes, 3,508 packs of Coca-Cola Zero-Sugar, and 87 packs of Fanta Orange flavor.

The products, which expired in November 2024, have been evacuated to NAFDAC’s warehouse, awaiting destruction.

Tamanuwa stated that investigation is ongoing to identify other culprits.

NAFDAC has appealed to the public to report suspicious products, especially during festive periods, to safeguard public health.

The agency reiterated its commitment to protecting Nigerians’ health by continuing vigilance against expired and harmful products.
