…The National Assembly said the postponement is to allow its committees to conclude the ongoing budget defence sessions.
ABUJA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The National Assembly has shifted the resumption of plenary from Tuesday, February 24, 2026, to Thursday, March 5, 2026.
The change was announced in a statement released on Monday by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana.
Ogunlana explained that the adjustment was necessary to allow committees complete ongoing budget defence sessions.
The statement read, “Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members are hereby informed that the plenary session earlier slated for Tuesday, 24th February 2026 has been postponed.
“This postponement is to enable committees of the Assembly to conclude ongoing budget defence sessions.”
It further stated, “Plenary will now resume in both chambers on Thursday, 5th March 2026 at 11:00 a.m. Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members are advised to take note of the new date and time.”
The postponement comes as lawmakers continue deliberations on the 2026 Appropriation Bill, with several committees still holding budget defence meetings with ministries, departments, and agencies.
Both the Senate and the House of Representatives are expected to reconvene at 11:00 a.m. on March 5 to proceed with plenary.
The leadership apologised for any inconvenience caused by the adjustment and urged members to take note of the revised schedule.
