NCAA tells Ibom Air passengers to provide information

…NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs, Mike Achimugu, urged witnesses to contact him directly.

LAGOS, NIGERIA – The iNews Times | The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has appealed to passengers aboard Ibom Air flight IAN513 from Uyo to Lagos during last Sunday’s on-board fracas to share their accounts as part of its ongoing investigation into the incident.

In a statement posted on social media on Tuesday, the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mike Achimugu, urged witnesses to contact him directly to help establish a clearer picture of events.

“Once verified that you were actually a passenger on that flight, we can discuss and try to understand other perspectives to this issue,” Achimugu stated.

He stressed that while unruly behaviour by any passenger would not be excused, the authority was committed to ensuring that “every other person who was culpable down the line is held accountable.”

Achimugu revealed that NCAA officials in Lagos would embark on a fact-finding mission, working with police and other security personnel involved in the incident.

“One hopes that lessons are learned from all of these events and that necessary adjustments and improvements are implemented by all stakeholders, passengers, airline staff, aviation security, etc. At the end of it all, the message remains the same in aviation, it is safety first, safety second, and safety third,” he added.
