Ngige in EFCC custody

…“Ngige is with the EFCC. Former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment is with the EFCC.

ABUJA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Ngige, a former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, has reportedly been taken into custody by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to reports, EFCC personnel allegedly picked him up at his Abuja residence on Wednesday evening.

The development comes less than a month after his convoy was violently attacked in Anambra State, a strike that left two people, including a police orderly, injured, while a passer-by lost his life. Ngige was not in the convoy at the time of the incident.

Earlier on Wednesday, unverified social media posts claimed that the former minister had been abducted from his home.

Reacting to the rumours, Fred Chukwuelobe, his former media aide during his tenure as governor, issued a brief online statement clarifying the situation.

In a post on Facebook, Chukwuelobe wrote in part:
“Ngige is with the EFCC. Former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment is with the EFCC. More details later.”
