Nigerian Army Rescues 12 Kidnap Victims in Enugu, Arrests Two Suspects

…Nigerian Army said the kidnappers were unable to withstand the rapid response.

ENUGU, Nigeria — The iNews Times reports that the Nigerian Army rescued 12 kidnap victims in Enugu State and arrested two suspected kidnappers during a coordinated security operation in Ette Community, Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area.

The rescue operation was carried out by troops of the 82 Division under Operation Eastern Sanity after security forces received a distress call indicating that several residents had been abducted by suspected kidnappers in the community.

In a statement issued on Saturday through the Nigerian Army’s official communication channels, the military said the operation took place on Friday, March 6, 2026, following intelligence that the victims had been taken to a nearby hideout.

According to the statement, troops swiftly mobilised alongside police operatives, Forest Guards and members of the Neighbourhood Watch to locate the kidnappers and rescue the victims.

“Troops of the 82 Division Garrison under Operation EASTERN SANITY have recorded another operational success with the rescue of 12 kidnapped victims in Ette Community, Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State,” the Nigerian Army said.

Security operatives reportedly advanced toward the suspected area where the victims were believed to have been taken and launched aggressive search operations and fighting patrols to track down the abductors.

Nigerian Army said the kidnappers were unable to withstand the rapid response and combat readiness of the troops.

“Overwhelmed by the rapid response and superior combat readiness of the troops, the kidnappers abandoned their captives and fled the scene,” the statement added.

Troops subsequently secured the area and conducted further exploitation of the location, leading to the successful rescue of all 12 kidnap victims in Enugu without injuries.

During the operation, two suspects believed to be linked to the kidnapping were arrested and are currently undergoing interrogation as security agencies intensify efforts to track down other members of the criminal gang.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army said troops under Operation Eastern Sanity have intensified patrols and surveillance across surrounding communities to sustain security operations and reassure residents.

“The successful rescue further demonstrates the troops’ sustained operational pressure and unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property while restoring lasting security and public confidence across communities in the region,” the statement said.
