…North Carolina highlighted the community’s impact on the state’s economy, public service, and civic life.
The iNews Times reports that the state of North Carolina in the United States has officially declared June 14, 2025, as ‘Igbo Day’ to recognize the significant contributions of the Igbo community living in the state.
Making the proclamation, Governor Josh Stein highlighted the community’s impact on the state’s economy, public service, and civic life.
In a letter personally signed by the governor, the North Carolina government noted that the Igbo community has been an integral part of the state’s social and economic fabric for over 50 years.

As members of the community they have excelled in various fields, including education, law, medicine, entrepreneurship, and information technology.
They have also held key positions in state and federal government, contributing to the state’s growth and development. The Igbo community is committed to giving back to their adopted home.
They have been actively involved in various charitable activities, including volunteering in local schools, adopting a highway for cleanup efforts, supporting women’s shelters and hospitals, and organizing food pantry drives.
The community is also dedicated to preserving their cultural heritage, promoting Igbo culture, music, art, and traditions.
The Igbo community’s vision is to create a thriving community that honors and promotes their rich heritage while serving as a beacon of unity, support, and cultural pride.
Through their collective efforts, they aim to inspire future generations to embrace their identity and foster a strong sense of belonging and purpose within North Carolina.
The proclamation recognizes the Igbo Day Festival Organisation, a non-profit group formed in 2022 to unite families and educate the public about Igbo culture. The organisation held its first festival in July 2022 and has been working tirelessly to promote Igbo culture and traditions.
North Carolina joins Minnesota in officially celebrating the Igbo community, highlighting the growing recognition of the group’s contributions to American society.
The declaration of June 14 as ‘Igbo Day’ is no doubt a testament to the community’s hard work and dedication to their adopted home, iNews Times reports.
