Amichi, Nigeria — The iNews Times | NYSC Free Healthcare Outreach has reached about 120 indigent residents of Amichi in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, as part of the First Quarter 2026 Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) organised by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Beneficiaries of the NYSC Free Healthcare Outreach included the elderly, women, youths, and children, who received medical attention during the programme carried out in collaboration with a local hospital.
The outreach featured free medical consultations, distribution of drugs, and laboratory tests, including HIV and Hepatitis screenings. The initiative is designed to improve access to healthcare services and enhance the overall wellbeing of rural dwellers.

Flagging off the programme, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Pauline Ojisua, expressed appreciation to the Amichi community for providing a platform to positively impact lives through the HIRD initiative. She noted that the NYSC Free Healthcare Outreach remains a critical intervention in addressing healthcare gaps in underserved communities.
Responding, the Chairman of Nnewi South Local Government Area, Hon. Uche Ochuba, represented by the Chief of Staff, Hon. Emmanuel Anameme, commended the NYSC for bringing the free medical outreach to Amichi. He observed that the initiative would significantly improve access to healthcare services for residents across the local government area.
Also speaking, the Chief Medical Director of the collaborating hospital, Dr. Chukwudalu Orji, expressed satisfaction with the partnership between the NYSC and the hospital. He described the collaboration as instrumental to the successful execution of the programme.
The Chairman’s representative further welcomed the State Coordinator and appreciated the NYSC for extending the laudable initiative to the people of the community, stressing that such interventions remain vital in bridging healthcare delivery gaps in rural areas.
