ANAMBRA, NIGERIA – The iNews Times | Days after the controversial stripping of Ibom Air passenger, Emmanson Comfort, at Lagos Airport, another disturbing case of assault has surfaced, this time involving a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Anambra State.
A viral video, widely shared on social media and posted by the Haven 360 Foundation on Facebook, shows a female corps member, identified as Jennifer Edema Elohor, being flogged and stripped naked by gun-wielding operatives of the Operation Udo Ga-Achi, also known as the Agunechemba Vigilante Group.
According to reports, the vigilante operatives stormed a corps members’ lodge on July 23, 2025, accusing the occupants of being internet fraudsters, also known as “Yahoo boys.” Despite presenting their NYSC identity cards, the corps members were allegedly brutalised.
In the footage, Elohor is seen being beaten and left naked, while the operatives hurled sexually degrading threats at her and others. The Haven 360 Foundation condemned the attack as a gross violation of human rights.
“The assault was particularly egregious in the case of Jennifer Edema Elohor, who was beaten, stripped naked, and left exposed and covered in blood. The victims were subjected to unsavoury, horrible, sexually degrading words and actions, including threats of sexual violation,” the foundation wrote.
The Anambra State Government has since confirmed the incident and announced the arrest of the vigilante operatives involved.
Ken Emeakayi, Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, described the attack as “unfortunate and unacceptable” during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Tuesday.
Emeakayi explained that the vigilante team had been on the trail of suspected cultists riding motorcycles when they entered the compound where corps members were residing.
“In the process of searching the houses in line with their mandate, the unfortunate incident involving the corps member occurred,” he said.
The video has sparked widespread outrage across social media, with Nigerians demanding accountability and justice for the victims. Many commentators described the attack as another example of unchecked abuse of power by local security outfits.
Human rights groups and NYSC stakeholders have also weighed in, calling for stronger safeguards to protect corps members who are deployed across the country for national service.
