In a significant move to reward excellence and encourage youth participation in public service, Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has offered automatic employment to nine former members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The announcement was made during a brief ceremony held at Government House, Umuahia, where the Governor directed the State Head of Service, Mr. Benson Ojeikere, to formalize their employment into the Abia State Civil Service without further interviews.
Governor Otti, who is known for his reform-driven approach to governance, emphasized that the gesture was aimed at recognizing and rewarding the hard work, discipline, and commitment demonstrated by the former NYSC members during their one-year mandatory service. He stressed that they had already proven their competence through their performance during their service year and therefore did not need to go through any additional selection process.
“They have already passed the interviews,” Governor Otti remarked. “This recognition is our way of showing that hard work, dedication, and excellence are noticed and rewarded in Abia State. We hope this gesture inspires other NYSC members to give their best during their service to the nation.”
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Nwogu Chinomso, an indigene of Obingwa Local Government Area, expressed deep gratitude to the Governor for what he described as a life-changing opportunity. Chinomso thanked Governor Otti for his magnanimity and promised that the group would serve the state diligently and uphold the trust reposed in them.
“I want to sincerely express our heartfelt gratitude to you, Your Excellency, for the recognition and encouragement you have given to us,” Chinomso said, describing the Governor as a visionary and compassionate leader. “We promise never to disappoint you. By God’s grace, we will serve the state with dedication, loyalty, and honesty.”
Abia State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Gladys Adama, also commended Governor Otti for the gesture, describing it as unprecedented and a morale booster for corps members serving in the state. She revealed that eight out of the nine beneficiaries had served outside the South-East zone and distinguished themselves in their various places of primary assignment. According to her, the Governor’s recognition would go a long way in motivating other corps members to work harder and contribute meaningfully to the communities where they are posted.
