…the appeal came during a grand political rally held in Oba.
OBA, NIGERIA – The iNews Times | The people of Oba, a rapidly expanding community in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, have made a passionate appeal to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo to accelerate key developmental projects starting with the strategic ₦3 billion Oba–Umuoji road project already approved by the state government.
The appeal came during a grand political rally held in Oba, where the community, under the umbrella of the Oba Patriotic Union (OPU), formally endorsed Governor Soludo for a second term in office. Leading the charge was the President General of OPU, Engr. Anthony Uzo Ejiofor (Ezeugonna), who praised Soludo’s achievements in security, urban renewal, and economic growth but underscored the urgent needs of the community.
“While we commend His Excellency for approving the Oba–Umuoji road, we plead for its immediate commencement,” Ejiofor stated in his welcome address. “This road is a vital lifeline connecting Oba, Umuoji, and Akwukwu. It will transform mobility and boost trade across Idemili South.”
The rally, attended by thousands, also served as a platform to advocate for greater inclusion of Oba indigenes in government appointments. Ejiofor emphasized the need for the community to be recognized in state governance, particularly by designating the Rojenny Tourist and Sports Village as Anambra’s official State Sports Centre.
“Rojenny is not just a monument of the past; it is a national treasure that birthed Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets of 1993. It is time to give it the official recognition it deserves,” he said.
In a bold show of commitment, the community announced a ₦50 million donation to Governor Soludo’s campaign fund, signaling their unwavering support for his re-election bid.
“We are not just endorsing; we are investing,” said a senior community member. “0ba will stand by Soludo, not only with votes but with value.”
In a related development, the Deputy Mayor of Idemili South, Hon. Ifeanyi Anakuba, lauded the collaborative leadership style of Engr. Ejiofor, noting that the OPU President General’s advocacy was instrumental in securing the Governor’s nod for the road project.
“This approval is a landmark victory,” Anakuba noted. “It will unlock opportunities not just for Oba, but for the entire Idemili South zone. The synergy between the community, the Mayor, and the Governor is a model others should follow.”
He also praised the working relationship between the President General, the Mayor of Idemili South, Hon. Dr. Mrs. Amaka Obi (Iyom Ife-Abata), and the Soludo administration, urging other President Generals in the region to emulate the approach.
The traditional ruler of the community, HRM Igwe Engr. A.C. Emelobe (Ezeokpoko II of Oba), also declared the town’s full support for Soludo’s second term ambition. He emphasized that the community’s growing population and electoral strength would be strategically mobilized to secure the Governor’s continued transformation of the state.
With the Oba–Umuoji road project now carrying a ₦3 billion price tag and state approval, hopes are high in the community that additional demands government appointments, infrastructure, and recognition of Rojenny will soon receive attention.
“Oba is ready,” said Engr. Ejiofor. “We are ready to work with the government, attract investment, and serve as a model of grassroots development in Anambra State.”
