Otti Dismisses Kalu’s Claim, Says Second Term Is Guaranteed

…Otti expressed confidence in divine support,

ABIA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has said his administration will not be sidetracked by talks about the 2027 elections, insisting that his priority remains delivering meaningful development to the people of the state.

The governor made the remark on Saturday while worshipping at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Umuikaa District headquarters, in Isialangwa South Local Government Area, alongside his wife, Priscilla Chidinma.

Otti stated that he was unconcerned about the next election cycle, expressing confidence in divine guidance over the political process. “I am not worried about 2027. The same God who resolved 2023 will take care of 2027,” he said.

He added that his administration would remain committed to doing what is right for Abia, regardless of criticism or opposition attacks, stressing that good governance would continue to be his focus.

Governor Alex Otti has insisted that neither individuals nor groups have the right to derail his administration, urging supporters to ignore political distractions and remain focused on governance.

According to him, attempts to create noise or stir controversy should not divert attention from the task of delivering on his mandate. He stressed that his government would stay committed to its responsibilities regardless of opposition pressure.

The governor has recently been locked in a public exchange with three former Abia State governors—Orji Kalu, Theodore Orji, and Okezie Ikpeazu, following comments by Kalu, who vowed to block Otti’s re-election bid in 2027.

Responding to the political attacks, Otti expressed confidence in divine support, saying he was sometimes unsure whether critics were referring to the 2027 elections or another contest altogether. He added that just as God saw him through the 2023 polls, the same divine intervention would prevail in 2027.

Last week, the Abia State Government, through the governor’s Special Adviser on Policies and Interventions, Rev. Fr. Christian Anokwuru, cautioned opposition figures against attempting to pitch Governor Otti against President Bola Tinubu. Anokwuru said former governors and past office holders should be judged by their own records, noting that their criticisms lack credibility when they rely on invoking the name of the President rather than highlighting personal achievements.

He argued that opposition figures whose tenures are still fresh in the memories of Abians must expect public scrutiny, adding that criticism rooted in political name-dropping does little to advance constructive debate.

On infrastructure development, Governor Otti apologised to residents for the inconvenience caused by dust from ongoing road reconstruction works, explaining that the projects were nearing completion. He noted that although the road under reconstruction is a federal highway, the state secured approval from the Federal Government to rehabilitate and dualise it, alongside related works stretching from Onuimo to Tower. According to him, the aim is to ensure that anyone entering Abia State immediately notices a clear difference in road quality and infrastructure.

Meanwhile, church leaders and members of the Alex Otti Vanguard Movement for Continuity 2027 voiced strong support for the governor. Figures such as Dr. Fineboy Ikechi Joseph, Elder G.C. Ukaegbu, and Elder E.C. Alozie said the governor’s achievements across Abia were sufficient to secure him a second term, describing his leadership as people-oriented and hope-inspiring.

During the church service, Masterguide Chidera Mark delivered a sermon titled “Living With Eternal Perspective,” drawing from Isaiah 40:28–31. He reminded worshippers of God’s constancy and strength, noting that Abia State had experienced renewed hope under Otti’s leadership and that continuity would help sustain the progress recorded so far.

The service ended with special prayers offered for Governor Otti, his administration, and the continued development of Abia State.
