…as defendants plead not guilty to the 12-count charge in the Ozekhome forgery trial.
Abuja, Nigeria — The iNews Times reports that the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory sitting in Maitama on Friday granted bail of N10 million each to Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mike Ozekhome, and his co-defendant, Ponfa Useni, following their arraignment in the Ozekhome forgery trial.
The case, filed by the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation, involves alleged forgery of documents, including an international passport and an irrevocable power of attorney, reportedly used to lay claim to a London property allegedly unlawfully procured by the late Jeremiah Useni.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the 12-count charge in the Ozekhome forgery trial.
Prosecuting counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, did not oppose the bail applications filed by Tayo Oyetibo, SAN, for Ozekhome, and F.R. Onoja, SAN, for Useni.
Justice Chizoba Oji ordered each defendant to provide one surety owning property within the FCT and to deposit their international passports with the court. Since proceedings were held on a Friday, the judge allowed the defendants to return home before perfecting bail, but they must report back on Monday or face remand.
The Ozekhome forgery trial is expected to continue in the coming weeks, drawing attention from legal circles and the public alike.
