PLATEAU, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The Plateau State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has suspended Peter Tongshep, a recently elected factional chairman linked to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Tongshep, who emerged from a parallel congress held last Tuesday alongside 38 other executives, previously served as PDP chairman in Mikang Local Government Area and as the party’s Southern Zone Vice Chairman.
The exercise drew notable figures from the Wike-aligned camp, including former Sports Minister, Damishi Sango, ex-minister Musa I. Azi, and Board of Trustees members Timothy Golu and Johnbul Shekarau, among others.
Sango, a founding member of the PDP, had defended the move, saying it was necessary to sustain the party.
However, in a statement issued on Thursday, the state PDP leadership under Raymond Dabo announced Tongshep’s immediate one-month suspension. The statement, signed by State Publicity Secretary Choji Felix Dalyop, said the decision was based on provisions of the party’s 2017 Constitution (as amended).
According to the party, Tongshep’s actions were deemed to contravene Sections 58(1)(i) and (j), prompting the invocation of Section 57(1) by the State Working Committee.
During the suspension period, he is barred from carrying out his duties as Southern Zone Vice Chairman. The matter has also been referred to the party’s Disciplinary Committee at its state secretariat along Yakubu Gowon Way in Jos for further review and recommendations.
The PDP reaffirmed its commitment to discipline and adherence to due process.
