ANAMBRA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended a five-member gang allegedly involved in robbing commercial motorcyclists of their bikes and other valuables in Ihiala Local Government Area.
The suspects were arrested during an early Tuesday operation by officers of the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu. Items recovered from them include a locally fabricated Beretta pistol, three suspected stolen Qlink motorcycles (150 Tiger model), and a red face mask.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed that the group operated with the help of a female member who lured unsuspecting riders to isolated areas.
According to him, the woman posed as a passenger to deceive commercial motorcyclists, commonly known as okada riders, directing them to secluded locations where other gang members ambushed and robbed them of their motorcycles and personal belongings.
Those arrested were identified as Sunday Chukwudebele (22), Adaobi Udeze (26), Chimezie Ifebi (35), Kelvin Chukwuejike (28), and Uzi Chukwuejike Williams Umeh (26).
Ikenga added that the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, praised the operatives for their prompt action and reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to protecting lives and property across the state.
He also called on residents, especially commercial motorcyclists, to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
Meanwhile, The iNews Times had earlier reported on March 22 that police in the state arrested three suspected armed robbers and cultists in separate operations, recovering firearms, ammunition, and a stolen petrol tanker.
The suspects were reportedly apprehended on March 21, 2026, around 1:46 p.m., after actionable intelligence led operatives to raid their hideout in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area.
