ANAMBRA, NIGERIA- The iNew Times | The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old suspect, Ugochukwu Uzor, who has confessed to leading several criminal gangs and to participating in the murder of Anambra State House of Assembly member Azuka Justice on December 24, 2024.

Sources iNews Times on Wednesday that Uzor was captured during a major police operation in Iyiowa Odekpe, located in the Ogbaru Local Government Area. He was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, after sustaining serious injuries during an encounter with police on Monday.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said officers recovered a locally made Beretta pistol and 11 rounds of live ammunition from the suspect.

According to Ikenga, “Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to being the leader of several criminal gangs operating across Anambra and neighbouring states.”

Ikenga added that Uzor also admitted to abducting and killing the lawmaker, revealing details of his involvement in the crime.

The statement further described the arrest as a significant breakthrough:
“On December 8, 2025, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, apprehended a notorious and severely injured armed robber during an offensive raid in Ogbaru LGA.
The suspect, identified as Ugochukwu Uzor, a 26-year-old male, is a dangerous criminal with a long record of violent offences. He was arrested in Iyiowa Odekpe after a fierce confrontation with police. Officers recovered one locally made Beretta pistol and eleven live rounds from him.”

Police also noted that Uzor bore large tattoos reading ‘No Forgiveness’ and ‘No Mercy,’ which they described as reflective of his hardened criminal disposition.

Ikenga stated that the murder of Hon. Justice shocked residents and drew widespread condemnation. He said Uzor’s arrest represents a major milestone in efforts to combat violent crime and will aid ongoing investigations aimed at dismantling criminal networks. He urged the public to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with security agencies.

It was previously reported that the lawmaker was abducted on December 24, 2024, along Ugwunabankpa Road in Inland Town, Onitsha. His decomposing body was later found after arrested kidnappers led security agents to the location where it had been dumped.

This latest arrest adds to the growing number of suspects already in custody in connection with the lawmaker’s abduction and murder.
